If you are starting BJJ, you probably want to know one thing.
What do I actually get from it?
Here is what most beginners learn in their first month.
Week 1: You learn how to move
Most people feel clumsy at first. That fades fast.
You learn:
- How to stand up safely
- How to move on the ground
- How to stay balanced
Week 2: You start feeling fitter
You will notice:
- Better cardio
- Stronger core
- Less stiffness
- Better posture
This is because you are using your whole body in ways a normal workout does not.
Week 3: You learn simple self-defence ideas
Self-defence starts with basics:
- Stay calm
- Protect your posture
- Learn how to control distance
- Escape bad positions
BJJ is famous for using technique and leverage, not size.
Week 4: You start building real confidence
Not “hype” confidence.
Real confidence comes from:
- Showing up
- Learning a hard skill
- Getting a little better every week
How often should you train?
- 2x per week: great progress
- 3x per week: faster growth
- 1x per week: still helpful, just slower

Your first class is the hardest one to book. After that, it gets easy.
